The Dave Richardson Band has created a special recipe for soulful, upbeat, funky music that draws on a base of authentic American Classic Soul Funk and a touch of Blues. The band can lay down subtle, soulful dance grooves, rip into a hot Texas Blues or venture into a funky improvisational groove at the drop of a hat. The consistent factors are incredible energy, a deep rhythmic pocket and maximum audience enjoyment. The band draws on the diversity of each member’s unique musical voice and style. In his guitar playing, founder, Dave Richardson draws on a mixture of classic blues guitar influences including BB King, Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughn. When not cranking out blistering guitar solos, Dave locks in a soulful, funky rhythm with tight syncopated rifts reflective of Dave‘s love of James Brown, Watts 103 Rhythm Band and The Meters. Dave shares the vocal spotlight with bassist, Wes James.
Wes is known for his velvet, soulful voice and old school bass style played on his vintage fretless Fender Precision bass. Wes brings his expertise, discipline and the importance of dynamics to the band from his years of performing with Luther Guitar Junior Johnson.
Perhaps the key to this band’s soulful funkiness is percussionist, Greg Baker. Greg hails from Philadelphia where he performed for such acts as (Blue Magic, Major Harris and many others) he is well schooled in the classic grooves of funk, jazz and fusion. Greg also adds his own melodic soulful voice to the band's textured sound.
Keyboardist Peter Mann's influences include Ray Charles, Les McCann, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, and Greg Phillinganes.. Although Mann aspires to keep growing musically, he feels 'indeed fortunate" to have been blessed with musical talent. Pete loves to play in the pocket, and can let a melodically infused solo fly whenever the genie calls his number.
Last but not least, saxophonist Marcus Monteiro often soars above the mix with a virtuosity and authenticity rarely heard with such finesse. Marcus has found a way to integrate the soul of the blues with the complexity and sophistication of the jazz saxophone masters of late.
They say that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. This could not be more true for this band as each member adds to the natural chemistry that makes this band a perfect synthesis of soul, energy, and groove.
